The Curious Case of Elgene Cruz

It is always annoying when people misspell or mispronounce your name, but if they're new acquaintances - well it's forgivable. But what eats me is that some of my long-term "friends" often misspell my name (for those who don't know it's E-L-G-E-N-E, not Elgine, Elgin, and definitely not Eugene...). It sometimes makes me wonder how they truly know me, for obviously the simple fact that they don't know how to correctly spell my name, tells a lot .

A lot of people actually, aks me about the origin of my name - well it's my sister, Ate Evie who named me, (those who are interested, all of my siblings' name starts with "E" - don't know why my parents want to name their children like that, though!), just so you know, i have a twin sister who's name is Edlyn, and my mother wanted me named Eugene - and my sister opted to name me Elgene (It's actually a rather bizarre anecdote).

Another thing that's freaking me out is a lot of people think I'm a girl, because of my name! Well, if it is spelled Eljean or Ellegine (as some of the feminine version of the name is spelled) I'd probably agree with them, but why the name Eugene doesn't give that same misconception, seeing my name is almost identical to that, that some people actually calls me Eugene - which really annoys me.

So, maybe you're asking yourself why is this guy yammering about how people refer to him - it's simply because it's quite disturbing when you think about how people perceives you as a person, and how much your friends know about you, if they indeed know you.
